Re: RAdio Programme - What if...

I think I heard of it before, but thanks anyway. Is that in RealAudio? I can't seem to open it (and since I don't have RealPlayer that could be the problem...)EDIT: I just found it, yes it's RealPlayer. (since I don't officially own this computer and the real owner is paranoid about certain programs...

Blood stained arm? Blood stained everything!

Here's a picture from El Pais. There's blood everywhere, including all over Alexander's face. I'm still in the process of deciphering the text... I did find out the picture is supposed to be Gaugamela (shot in Marokko).http://www.allstarz.org/~colinfarrell/articlescans/elpais21mar04_1.jpgThe article...

Rant about maps...

I've just spent the last hour trying to find some good maps online and I'm about to admit defeat. In all the internet, isn't there one map with a bit of detail, that's not all grainy or fuzzy, or coloured purple and yellow, or the size of a postage stamp?Thank whatever power for Westermanns Gro+ƒer A...

Re: Alexander's Bloody Arm?

I saw a picture of Colin Farrell with a big (10 cm?) scar on his upper right arm (unless it was flipped) but the closest I can get as far as Alexander's concerned was a slight wound to his shoulder:"but during the operation he was wounded in the shoulder by a missile which pierced his corselet....

Re: Nectanebo:Was he Alexander's real father?

About the father/reincarnation thing - not that I'm as au fait with Egyptian religion as I should like:As far as I can remember pharaoh must always be the reincarnation of Horus and son of Ra (Re). That means Alexander wouldn't be greeted as Nectanebo's reincarnation, but instead they were both seen...

Re: Meaningless Accidents.....

Here's the complete text about Euripides' death from your link:Euripides died in 407/406 in Macedonia at the court of King Archelaus, either in self-imposed exile or at the king's invitation. An **improbable** explanation of his death shows how controversial he was: "He is said to have been kil...

Re: comments on Worthington's

I haven't read the offending passages, but it sounds a bit like the way Arrian made my ears prick up. First he tells of the naming of a town for the horse, th+¬n he says that Alexander "lost" the horse once, in Uxia. You have to be careful you get these asides put in their proper perspectiv...

A late entry

And how about another son of Zeus: Herakles (Hercules if you prefer). I just realised, that makes him Alexander's half-brother.Plutarch said of his lovers (of the male variety): "it is difficult to record them because of their number". Some of the ones he liked best: Nestor, the youngest s...
