Re: Two books on Alexandria, Egypt
Thanks. I've always found the various ideas about Alexanders actual burial place fascinating. I'll have to put those on my ever increasing list of books to read.

Re: Information about participants
I do read here often but find that I only post from time to time. In case anybody is interested I guess I fall somewhere between the high school student and the old college professor. I'm a 40 year (oops, 41) old mother of three and registered nurse. Not exactly what you'd expect to find on an Alexa...

Original Arrian
Where is the oldest copy of Arrian? I was curious because of the little missing part - made me wonder how old and where is the oldest copy of Arrian. Anybody know or have any idea how to find out? Thanks for the help.

Re: Michael Wood's In the Footsteps of Alexander
I've seen Michael Wood's 'In the Footsteps of Alexander' and found it very one sided. Wood seems to push the opinions of Curtius while belittling those of Arrian. I must be honest, I have read Arrian and enjoyed it thoroughly but have not yet read Curtius - however it is on my very long list of book...

Re: Philp,Attalus and Alexander
Here is my take on Colins portrayal of Alexander during the wedding scene. I think at first he appears shocked that Philip was taking the side of Attalus and then, when Philip is telling him to come to him and apologize - I believe this is the part where some think Colin looks weak - to me it appear...

Re: Frank Holt, Into the Land of Bones
Do you have information about the 98% of artifacts that were destroyed. Was this in Afghanistan alone? What was destroyed? I am curious. Thanks.

Re: describe the man
Funny. You mention in your sentence that he was witty and amusing. I just replied to another post which stated he didn't have a sense of humor. Alexander is a different person to each one that studies him. That is part of the fascination.

Re: Alexander's humor
Hello. I don't post enough for anyone here to really know me but I do read often. Anyway, maybe the things he said which were humorous have just not been recorded because nobody thought it important. I haven't read though that he frowned a lot though. Where did you find that?

Re: What if?
I'm fascinated by this discussion. Thank you all for the interesting information. I had just read in Hammond's 'The Genius of Alexander the Great' that he believed Alexander had wished to take Darius alive but didn't give as much debate to it as you have here.Pam

Yes, this does seem to arise quite often. If you go to the bottom of the forum you'll see a place where you can 'search forum'. Put 'lasting contributions' into the box and then click the search button. You'll find a thread titled 'lasting contributions' that has the last group of posts on this subj...

Hello Dean These may not be what you're looking for but I'll put them here anyway. They are from the recent movie Alexander (I know, most of you hated it but I really enjoyed it. I did not have much interest in Alexander beforehand but have found myself fascinating with him ever since. This point is...

Re: Finally - the end!
Linda, that was wonderfully said. I never knew so much about the influence of Alexander in regards to the status of women. I had read about his respect for women but never knew the extent of it. Thank you so much for your great endeavor in supplying this information.Pam
