Philip Freeman's "Alexander the Great"
I got around to reading this, and thought it was rather 'meh.' It read ok, but he tended (at least is seems to me) not to have any rhyme or reason as to when he chose how to cover controversial topics. Sometimes he'd cover the different angles, sometimes he'd list two (of several) interpretations, a...

Don't forget Nectanebo II as a possible father....
So...three mothers and three fathers (which is a nice symmetry)!

Re: Manfredi on Alexander's Tomb
The translated blurb: The story of the tomb of Alexander is the story of an adventure. Districare le infinite leggende dai fatti, interpretare le fonti storiche, lacunose e contraddittorie, addentrarsi nel mito equivale a muoversi verso "una meta enigmatica e sfuggente come i miraggi del desert...

Success tends toward making someone popular, too. And none (or, at most, very few) were/are as successfult as Alexander.

My guess is that he knew he was poisoned, didn't care,
and that's why he didn't name a successor on his death bed. Unless, of course, he did leave a successor, in which case I don't think he was poisoned. "To the strongrest" would have been said out of spite. Sort of "You want to get rid of me, fine! Let's see what you can do am...

Re: Review of Ranajit Pal
The reigns of Diodotos and Ashoka weren't even contemporary, and certainly over different lands with the only possible overlaps in Arachotia and Gadrosia. According to http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/Diodotus , Diodotus' reign was between ~250 - ~238 BCE. According to http://www.1911encyclopedia.or...

Really?
the Greeks obviously gave them away. So why expect to get something back that one gave away. Does a person give a gify then ask for it back. If they didnt give them away then they did very little to stop it happening. If someone wasraiding my house id fight tooth and nail to protect what is mine. K...

It's a good read!
Dr. Pal looks at Alexander from and Indian perspective, which is one we don't get very often. If you've read his web pages, you'll have an idea where the book goes. I got my copy via an Amazon reseller. At first I ordered through amazon.co.uk and it didn't go through, so I bought through the reselle...

Although I doubt we need another 'Alexander' thread...
The more I think about it, the more I think your analogy is correct. Y'see, I've thought all three of the versions were good to great (1 good, 2 better, 3 great). He mixed his ingrediants and came up with three pretty good versions of the same movie. If the movie wasn't to your taste, it fits the an...

ALEXANDER THE GREAT - IMPACT OF THE 325 BC TSUNAMI
http://www.drgeorgepc.com/Tsunami325BCIndiaAlexander.html The page is by George Pararas-Carayannis, and is quite interesting. It postulates that the tsunami may have been one of the contributing factors of the fleet not keeping up with Alexander during his march through the desert back to Babylon. T...

He's also the Pharaoh right after Anektaten
(or however you spell it) who was the heretic king that worshiped only the Sun God (some suggest that he, once he fell from grace, may have been the basis for the stories about Moses being involved with the Royal House or may have been Moses, period). So not important strictly from the fact that he ...
