Iolas, son of Antpater
We hear of Olympia scattering Iolas' ashes to the wind; do we know how/when he died?

"Companions"
Regarding ancient Greek language; is it possible to have another interpretation of 'Hetaroi'meaning 'Companions'? Could it mean 'friend','associate', 'mate', 'buddie' (I can't even think of any other words lol), or does it specificaly translate to 'Companions'.I've often thought about this, but neve...

Re: The Tomb Armour
If its true, that someone with a height of 5'2" was the owner of the armour, then I would suggest it more likly to have belong to an adolecent, rather than an adult. Perhaps Alexander, son of ATG? He was presumably done away with when he was a teen.( Just cant buy this Philip, ATG, Arridaeus et...

Re: Alexander's height
I place him at somewhere between 5feet 7inches to around 5feet 10 inches lol,. I don't think i've ever read anywhere about his height, but I would imagine he was not amongst the taller of men for the time or else some of the sources would have mentioned it. I believe, Darius and Porus are mentioned ...

Re: Wedding party
Congratulations on your future marriage Maciek, may it be a happy and beutiful marriage that lasts for ever. I beleieve one Macedonian Custom was the sharing of a loaf of bread.(Curtius I think).. Suprisingly enough I have been to a modern Macedonian wedding where a similar custom still prevailed [w...

Political marriages! What was the point of it?
Seems a central theme when studying the History of Macedon, regardless of period, there are a lot of political marriages. But what seem s most amusing to me, they seem to ensure very little political stability. So what was the point of marrying of daughters to rival kings, chiefs, kingmakers etc,.or f...

Re: Let me start by saying...
Head Tilt!, seems most post Aleaxandrian historical figures adopted this characteristic. Plutarch writes on a number of his characters as having adopted the Head Tilt~!

Re: Online Indica
Hi Marcus, Arrian clearly states that Philip was Amyntas's son ....'next came the the infantry battalions of Oerdiccas, son of Orontes, of Coenus, son of Polemocrates, of Amyntas, son of Andromenes, in that order: finally the troops under Amyntas' son, Philip.' My impression is that Amyntas was more...

Re: Online Indica
I find it a little odd, that two of the six battalions were commanded by one family at the Granicus. i.e Amyntas and Philip ,son of Amyntas. I get the impression they represent the Stymphae territory, which seems to be contributing an awfull lot of troops to this compaign. More so, i get the impress...

Re: Which Cantons were represented?
Many thnx Karl, :). Unfortunately I cant afford to buy Diodorus'work, very expensive here for some reason. Does he mention by chance that those commanders came from the specific territories they commanded?. Although from what I can make out it doesn't sound like they did. Once again thnx, my troops ...

A Gift Worthy Of Parmenio??
Plutarch states that'Alexander became exceptionally generous as his wealth increased. He (ATG) 'presented Parmenio with the house of Bagoas at Susa, in which it is said clothes were found to the value of a thousand talents.'Does't seem very appropriate to me! The most powerfull man militarily bar AT...

Having gone through the forums search engine, have realized this subject matter has been raised before. No need to respond, although some confusing theories thrown about by the sounds of it.bye
