Re: Hephaestion's Relief
Before the scholarly debate really gets going I have a sort of connected question. Strabo mentions a temple, a Hephaistion, on the island of Pharos at Alexandria. I'm recalling from memory here and would gladly be corrected. Was this a temple to Hephaistos/Ptah or could it have been the temple of H...

Re: an account from Athenaeus(?)
$150.00? Between that and the volumes on the Diodach wars im trying to acquire, Alexander and his buddies are turning out to be quite the expensive date!

Re: an account from Athenaeus(?)
Marcus, Paralus... Thanks for the feedback here. Im going to try and pick it up in the Loeb editions. My list of books is getting quite long but this might jump pretty close to the front. A good change of pace maybe. And the Diodoch wars is really catching my interstate as well. Im glad to find ther...

an account from Athenaeus(?)
I was skimming through Ian Worthingtons book and he mentioned an account of Alexander from an author by the name of Athenaeus. Im sure its not a very prominent account as I am just now coming across his name. And it is apparently written in some kind of antidote style of writing. Does anyone have in...

Re: Alexander's Eyes
It always sounded like a romance story to me. Im glad to know that is actually where it came from. As for the Kalash, they are a very culturally rich and colorful people. And they themselves have legends of being decended from the Macedonian army. That could have been a case of them being told this ...

Re: Photos from Macedonia, Alexander, Philippos, Aristotle
I never realized how big the Alexander and Bucephalus statue actually were until I saw the people standing under it. These are very good photos.

Re: Dividing The Spoils.
Paralus,
What do you mean by "low chronology" and "high chronology" ? I've noticed quite a few differences in timelines from book to book on this period, but haven't heard of a high or low chronology... just curious.

Re: Pergamon Replica
Alexias, Hello. Great pictures! Are these "official" copies of the originals? As in do they have the lead stamp on them? Or are they the slightly altered ones? Either way they are very cool. : ). The second one is my favorite I think. Even though they are all great pieces! Thanks for shari...

Re: Pergamon Replica
System1988, Just out of curiosity, what is average pricetag on these copies? The official and unofficial? Is there a big difference in cost because someone buys an official copy rather than an unofficial one? Im sure there is some difference. But id just like to know if its a substantial one. And ar...

Re: Historical Gamers
Hail, Pothosians! It's been a while since i posted anything, though I do frequently lurk and read about the goings-on in the community. I am wondering if there are any historically-minded roleplaying gamers among our ranks? I'm working on a narrative-based RPG set at Athens between the end of the P...

Efstathios,
Are there any other lines in the translations that you believe were deliberately misleading through the translators text?
