Good point, Efstathios. I wonder if the confusion has arisen because of the previous definition of a camel prior to the common usage of the word today. For instance, there’s an 1884 book online, A Confederate Soldier in Egypt which, quoting both Pliny and an author called Buffon, draws the distinct...

Actually the source of the legend is supposed to be Aristotle's Problemata.

Re: "Alexander's Tomb" by N. Saunders

Another Saunders clanger, which I found particularly amusing, is his assertion on p.59 that “in the Ptolemaia of 275-274BC… camels appeared for the first time in Egypt”. Actually, there is evidence of single-hump camels in Egypt from the pre-dynastic period (before the pharaohs). What is more...

Hi! I assume you refer to the phenomenon of Liana Souvaltzis. Alone that the supposed tomb of Alexander was in Siwa, was by itself suspicious. Her whole case, was a collection of conjectures trying to get a story. I had examined carefully the photos she had in her website and you could find among th...

Re: "Alexander's Tomb" by N. Saunders

6) Saunders thinks (p.200) that the Macedonian royal starburst was unknown until the tombs at Vergina were excavated by Andronikos in 1977. He states, “Andronikos was the first person to see the royal star probably since Roman times”. In fact this Star of Macedon is emblazoned on many of the Hellen...

Ah, OK. But I don't think they were ever part of the Epirote kingdom, merely part of the Molossian confederacy. It wasn't as if Philip, when he incorporated the areas into Macedonia, was taking land from Epirus. ATB Truth is that all these tribes of upper Macedonia (Elimiotae, Timfae, Orestae, Lync...

Hello,

Orestae, along with Elimiotae and Lyncestae were initially part of Molossian ethne, and later they were incoporated into the Macedonian kingdom. You could find them under the names Orestae Molossi and later as Orestae Makedones.

hello, Artaxerxes III Ochos was poisoned, as you already said, by Bagoas. Later Bagoas put a son of Artaxerxes III, called Arses, on the throne but he also put him out of the way soon. His next choice was another man of the royal line who adopted the name Darius Codomanus. Neither Darius fully answe...

Hello, Amyntas certainly posed a visible threat to Alexander as he was the rightful heir to the kingdom of Macedon, being the son of Perdicas III and furthermore he was older than Alexander. In fact, Philip secured his throne by managing to deprive him of his title and marry him to his daughter Cyna...

Olympias tomb in Pydna??

Hello all, First post here and this place seems really great. As we all know Olympias was murdered in Pydna. During last century a couple of incriptions were found in the vicinity of Pydna which refer to the tomb of Olympias and her descedants. One example is on June of 1937, where Charles Edson dis...
