Racial Type of the Ancient Hellenes...
Sorry, forgot to post this link:http://www.geocities.com/dienekesp/hellenes.htmlThis is an excellent analysis of the racial type of the Ancient Greeks as evident in art and literature, it also is a classic debunking of "Nordicentrism".Regards as always,

I Agree Yiannis..
Taking one look at a book of Ancient Greek art proves that the dominant type of Greece and the Mediterranean was the dominant type also in atiquity. I cannot imagine a race of Blonde Hair blue eyes living in the mediterranean, it seems it would not be easy for a race of blonde hair blue eyes to deve...

Turkish domnination...?
Turkish domination of Italy? So THATS why Italians are so dark? Did you take a look at those Greek and Roman portraits from the Hellenistic era? If you did we would not be having this conversation right now.And since when are Turks "dark"? The original Turks were a East-Asian Mogolian trib...

Ancient Macedonian Portraits...
I have found an excellent page with some Hellensitc and Roman Era potraits of Greeks in Egypt. Given the nature of Greek rule and settlment in Egypt, it is probable and likely that they are of Macedonian extraction. From these portraits you can see the wide variety of characterisitcs that made up th...

Blue Eyed Blondes?
Perhaps you read this from Nazi Archelogists! This was the official Nazi version of mediterranean history, that brunettes did not exist in the mediterranean during antiquity and in affect were actually actually ruled by a nordic racial class.. some bizarre stuff. In any case, even the modern swedes ...

Ok.. i know this subject has been getting a lot of talk on this forum as of late.. but i hear alot that Alexander was supposedly Blonde(though the Pompeii Mosaic shows him as a medium brunette?) So my question is.. in what sources is Alexander described as being blonde.. i know some ancient Greek co...

In defense..
Of Mel Gibson.. he is an excellent actor that has never had a problem pulling off anyone from Hamlet to William Wallace, i am confident that he could play Phillip, and he may even be able to resmble him a bit.On the other hand, Nicole Kidman is who we should be worried about. I have never personally...

Re: Queries on the Iliad.
Well i'll be, im mistaken!thanks for clearing that up Dean! It's funny, that observation just shows how much of the details of the Illiad must be based on fact, rather than just pure mythology, because if you come to the conclusion that Homer was just trying to tell a good story(rather than a history...

replies on the Illiad....
Actually, the war didnt begin ten years after Helen was abducted if i am not mistaken, but in fact the Illiad begins 10 years into the Trojan War, after both the Greeks and Trojans are tired of fighting. You are however correct in assuming that the Trojan War started for reasons other than the Sparta...

Well Stathis.....
I am also Greek, but im not quite thickheaded enough to think Alexander and the rest of the Greeks didnt enjoy the company of young boys!Though i think the movies should leave this stuff out, only because modern audiences will not know how to take it.

How About....
Well no offense to some great actors(especially Sean Bean!) but how about some Mediterranean actors in the cast!?(ok, so Orlando Bloom looks kind of Greek-Trojan).There are plenty of great unknown Italian, Greek, and Spanish Thespians that would die to play one of these parts... and all these Nordic...

I am skeptical...
That Alxanders army would be "committing military suicide" by attacking Rome. I doubt the fledgling republic could have done much to stop Alexander's rmy, afterall they had a difficult time repelling Pyrus of Epiros a few centuries later. Although i wouldnt underestiamte the power of the e...

Re: film
oh yipee! a movie based on renaults books! i think making a movie based on her books is perfect, because it would provide just the right amount of fact mixed with romance that would make the movie a sure winner with me! Since you were asking about our"favorite Alexander moments" i would ha...
