it was a kind of rivalisation.
BTW Alexander of Epir was also very talented politic and commander.

Well Marcus I believe that decadarches was a commander of the file which was 16 man. The name was deca- ten because of previouse organisation where it was only 10 man in line. They changed organisation but this name stayed. There is some problem with lochoi - Warry states that lochagos was commander...

Well I had the same thoughts reading it. They tried to encircle Alex or just withdraw to draw him from their villages but with the plan of attack.
