Medieval Alexander

Post by marcus »

Dear all,

The British Library currently has an exhibition of illuminated manuscripts, dating from the 9th to the 16th centuries. A superb exhibition, by the way.

I was rather taken with this picture of Alexander fighting dragons, in an edition of the Alexander Romance produced around 1420. There were some other Alexander illuminations, but this was the only one of which I could get a postcard, or which was in the small catalogue that I bought. (There might be more in the full catalogue, but it was a bit pricy for just after Christmas!).
