Clever Alex

There are many myths associated with what Alexander said or did. Some of the them more popular/famous than the others but a few days ago I came across something completely new. Here is the extract from article:

"Before a critical battle with the Persians, Alex had his soldiers splash themselves with madder juice and stagger onto the battlefield. The Persians, thinking they could easily defeat the wounded soldiers, quickly attacked and fell into Alexander's clever trap." As a point of reference, the article is from here http://www.cjad.com/dr-joe/2015/05/21/a ... er-of-fact

Does anybody know if it is from one of the historical sources or modern/medieval invention?

Sounds purely apocryphal to me - and the article has missed the point about British redcoats. It was to make a bold statement that they weren't trying to hide, and so that the blood couldn't be seen from a distance.
