Alexandria's tsunamis

Post by Susa the Great »

Hello,

Anyone can give me an idea of how much of Alexandria original seashore line has been drowned during all those tsunami events (even after 350AD...).

I was thinking about the location of Alexander's tomb, and its relation to the seashore.

I've seen these pictures (http://www.oddee.com/item_96695.aspx), and I wonder how much of Alexandria was washed away by the sea.

Lovely pictures!

The way I understand it is that the coastline in and around Alexandria remained largely unchanged. The interesting bits that disappeared below the waterline were inside the harbour, ie the sea encircled by mainland, isthmus & Pharos Island on the east of the isthmus. Find Alexandria on Google maps, then zoom in on the harbour area, and compare it with this map to see what I mean. The map shows the location of Antirhodus.
