Out of interest ..If you were to start a thorough investigation
into ATG would you go straight to the sources
or would a Fox, Hammond etc be the place to start? In short ..Would you consider a real understanding of ATG be gained without reading the ancient sources ?
Regards.

Re: Macedonias pure Hellenes
I think the ancient Macedonians had more in common with the Corinthians , Athenians , Thebians etc than the Scots ever had with English.Scots are celts , English ..well take your pick from Saxon , Angle , Viking , Norman, Roman & Celt (cant forget the Cornish Celts in Devon) Was Greece ever a co...

Re: Away We Go!
Can I suggest Dion as the meeting place?
Where Alex pitched his tent prior to 'lift
off'. ps
I was envious of Michael Woods journey
Its a shame he couldnt have went to Iraq
or Afghanistan.
If he did it now of course he'd maybe
fair better
..thanks Dubya

Re: What if Hephaestion had lived ?
I think Alexander would have appointed him
his successor
Mainly to try & assure that his mother , wife
child AND HIS FRIEND would not be murdered
by a new hegemony.
He would have had nothing to lose by annointing
his friend and who knows maybe we underestimate Hephaestion.

Re: Koran
I'm sure people are familiar
with the Michael Wood film and
the quote read from the Koran in
Gaza. It figures that the 6th century
Arab 'prophet' would claim that ATG
was a creation of Allah..The sad thing is that intelligent men
actually believe the rubbish in this
comic as verbatim...

Re: good company
Its hard to look beyond ATG for #1 as a pure warrior and all round leader Any General who leads from the front and shares the sames risk on the battlefield as the ordinary soldier is to be admired greatly. In that light ... Hannibal Barca is probabaly # 2 Of course if Alexander had lived Carthage wo...

Re: What FYROM leaders have to say about Macedonia
Lets be honest .......... revisionist half baked theories are nothing new when it comes to ancient cultures and their supposed ethnicity and/or origin. In my view any individual who attempts to steal the heritage of another by myth , distortion or downright lies , has at root a deep insecurity about...

I'm hoping the Stone film will be good
I'd like to have seen Richard Burton in a

I thought it quite plausible that 'accidental death' was his undoing..its a new theory to me at least! There were some nice touches in the programme ..for instance you could appreciate why the core Macedonian elite hated ATG's assimilation of Persians etc ..I also liked the bit were they showed you a...

Re: movie about hannibal of carthage
You are basing your erroneous opinion that Hannibal was a black 'African' on sources that are entirley discredited & without foundation in the academic world..works written by 3rd rate junk historians like J A Rogers & Van Sertima , neither Rogers nor Van Sertima cite 1 single ancient source...
