Re: The Great
Im wondering if the definition is primarily European. Pro Roman days. Maybe the Romans were the first to call him the great. If not then if it was later European. Would Alexander have still been called Alexander The Great. If his conquests did include Europe. if The Romans had Conquered only the Mi...

Re: Sure, but
I would be much more concerned if modern writers did attribute his greatness to the intervention of the gods ... :? We'll have to give the gods some credit, I guess. They didn't directly come down and help Alexander, but they did at least give him some motivation. Being told that he was the son of ...

I know that it is not likely to find Alexander's body, but it is a possibility. Several groups might be out there are looking for his tomb right now. It has become an obsession of sorts, and it's nothing new. What's stopping them from finding it, though? The Earth is only so big, and sooner or later...

Wondering what might have been is a futile exercise although fun to contemplate. It's like wondering what other great symphonies would Mozart have composed if he didn't die at the age of 35. What other great movies would James Dean have acted in? What would Jimi Hendrix have done had he lived? Bruc...

You're very kind! It puzzles me why there's this lack of respect, this pity, for soldiers these days. It's almost as if people are blaming the soldiers - and other forces - for unpopular military actions their governments have decided upon. It's worse in some places than others, I think. In the UK,...

Thanks, Derek, it's good to be here. Feeling a bit like a child let loose in a toy shop at the moment, so many good things to look at. It's very odd how war retains its appeal. In a way, it's easier to understand in the ancient world, because of the chance it gave to see other places, get rich, etc...

The concept was a good idea. I always thought Alexander's early years were very interesting. I don't think this is going to be any Fire From Heaven though. I suppose it will focus on how he's just like all those other teens who have problems out there. As karen said before, the trailer and stills do...

Very funny! 90210...he, he, he. Alexander is at school, where he lives and studies with other boys, the sons of Macedonian noblemen. Their tutor is the legendary philosopher, Aristotle. The atmosphere is friendly but competitive, however, Alexander experiences all the problems a modern teenager has...
