Have no idea, and won't until I get a royalty cheque. :-)

Re: Historical inaccuracies

From the author's note (at the end of book 2): "Regarding the dialogue, Classical Greek is an elegant language, conversation impossible to render accurately without sounding stilted. This left me with two choices: write something that would send readers into fits of giggles or adopt a more mode...

Re: Dancing with the Lion (novels on the young ATG)

Thanks, Alexias. As noted, I'm trying to see if the only people who got the "wrong" cover (not the one they wanted) all pre-ordered. Right now, that's what it's looking like.

Anybody else order the hardcopy (not ebook), and if so, which cover did you get and when did you order it?

Re: Dancing with the Lion (novels on the young ATG)

Excellent. Glad to hear that. I emailed them yesterday evening, and they've already got it fixed, so that's wonderful news. And I'm glad you got the cover you wanted. Out of curiosity, when did you order it? Was it a pre-order or did you order it after it's official release on July 1? (I'm trying to...

Re: Dancing with the Lion (novels on the young ATG)

Moving back to this one. The novel has been out for a bit, and if folks are interested, there are several reviews on Goodreads, all from people I don't know, so don't worry, the deck isn't stacked with "friends and family." Ha. The current aggregate is a 4.32, nothing below 3 stars, but ob...

Re: Power causes Brain Damage?

Hi, Sikander. Sorry for the slow response (book stuff). In any case, I think you make some good points here, particularly about differences in how one came to power between now and then. I definitely don't think Alex was a psychopath (although I think some of my colleagues might argue that point, ha...

Power causes Brain Damage?

https://getpocket.com/explore/item/power-causes-brain-damage?utm_source=pocket-newtab This is utterly fascinating, not just for modern folk, but for thinking about Alexander. (And why a figure like Hephaistion who grounded him/"mirroring," might have been so critical that when he died, Ale...

Re: Dancing with the Lion: preorder is open

So Hephaistion is not afraid to stand out and flaunt his Athenian ancestry. He seems like an interesting character to follow. I'm glad he isn't presented as insecure and bowing down to Alexander constantly. Hephaistion is an interesting character, in that one could interpret him several ways (and h...

Re: Dancing with the Lion: preorder is open

You are not the only one to ask. I actually got this question on Tumblr, too, so let me just link to that: https://jeannereames.tumblr.com/post/185180479754/thank-you-for-the-books-i-enjoyed-reading-the Hephaistion's style is found on Athenian red-figure pottery for boys about 14-18, albeit earlier ...

Re: Dancing with the Lion: preorder is open

Hi, Rosegarden. If you're interested in Alexander novels, as Alexias already mentioned, Mary Renault is the old standby. :-) It is quite safe for younger readers, so I can't imagine that your parents would be upset. It's safer than mine, frankly. You might also consider Judith Tarr's THE LORD OF THE...

Re: Dancing with the Lion: preorder is open

https://jeannereames.net/Dancing_with_the_Lion/history_story.html That's the author's note. It explains several of my choices. I mentioned it a while back on maybe another thread that those familiar with Alexander might want to read the note first, so they know why I made the choices that I did. :-)...

Re: Dancing with the Lion: preorder is open

That's at Aigai, not Pella (check the header above the video *grin*). And yes, you're looking towards the Khalkidike's Pallene peninsula way in the distance. There are only 3 videos from Pella, all in the lower town, and 3 from Vergina/Aegae. Most of Aegae was shut down, as they're doing restoration...

Re: Dancing with the Lion: preorder is open

Now that I've posted the covers on social media, I can put them here. I expect everybody will catch the historical error on cover #2. ;) I didn't realize she was going to use architecture or I could have given her a visual pun by suggesting the Temple to Hephaistos in the Athenian agora. Ha. Both of...
