FAMOUS TRAGEDY "ALEXANDER THE GREAT" PUBLISHED

Skopje, August 5 (MIA) - "Alexander the Great" by Jean Rasin, one of the most significant French authors of all times, was published by Matica Makedonska Publishing House. The translator of the book and author of the preface is Paskal Gilevski. Rasin wrote his famous tragedy "Alexander the Great" 340 years ago. As he himself wrote in the preface to his edition in 1676: "There is probably no tragedy or history that could be represented so accurately than this one in my work." The plot, as Rasin said, was taken from works by many writers, and mostly from Roman historian Quint Cruzie's book where we learned what Alexander the Great did when he entered India, how he sent his emissaries to Indian rulers and the way they were greeted there. mk/vd/13:38

Just to put things straight. There's no "Jean Rasin"! The name is: Jean Racine(1639-1699) and he was (actually he still is!) a very important French Drama writer. He wrote many Greek tragedies. Of course this book is also a drama (but not his best one unfortunately!)
Other plays he wrote are:
- Phaedra
- Andromache (considered his most important play)
- Iphigenia
- Berenice
