LOEB CLASSICAL LIBRARY NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Post by Xenophon »

Regular readers of Forum threads will have noticed that when classical references are given, they are generally chapter, verse and line of volumes in the Loeb classical library such as "Diodorus XIX.5.4"(random example).

Not everyone has access to this invaluable resource, and without it, participation by posting on Forum threads is difficult. Many are downloadable from the Internet (e.g. "Downloebables")and can be found using Google. Others can be found online at sites such as "Perseus".

As of the end of 2014, as I have recently discovered, lobbying by sites such as "Downloebables" has persuaded Harvard University to put the entire library online - though at a price. Individual subscriptions are U.S.$150 initially and $65 annually thereafter. The other alternative is access through an institution such as a library, which itself subscribes.....and if they don't you can always lobby them to !!
