BBC series of Michael Wood in India features Alexander

Post by amyntoros »

A heads up for all our British members - BBC2 has a program listing for Friday, September 14 at 9 PM for Michael Wood's The Story of India:
The Story of India
Fri 14 Sep, 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm 60mins

Reaching the time of the Fall of Rome in the West, Michael Wood seeks out the amazing achievements of India's golden age. We learn how India discovered zero, calculated the circumference of the earth and wrote the world's first sex guide, the Kama Sutra.

In the south we visit the giant temple of Tanjore, meet the present day Senior Prince and see traditional bronze casters, working as their ancestors did 1000 years ago. After sampling southern vegetarian food with a traditional Tamil family, Michael goes on pilgrimage to a sacred mountain where the annual fire festival was already famous in 700AD!
Am not sure if this is the first episode, but information from the BBC HD channel says that Alexander will also be featured.
Additionally, Michael Wood tells "The Story of India", in a colourful series that tells India's dramatic story, featuring some of the greatest characters in history including: Buddha, Alexander the Great, Ghandi, and Nehru.
Hmm, wonder how long it will take for this to be shown in the US?

Best regards,
Amyntoros

I hope they show this in the US as well. It's been a while since I've seen anything on Alexander the Great on TV. There's a nice preview for the show here: http://www.mayavisionint.com/Production ... ode_1.html if anyone's interested. Let's hope that we haven't missed the episode with Alexander the Great!

Best regards,
It's in Episode 2. The episode is really focused on the Buddha, a bit on Chandragupta, and quite a bit on Asoka; but Alexander is mentioned. Be warned, though - not much detail at all, almost no more than a mention.
