Royal flags and emblems

Post by ruthaki »

This is a kind of unusual request, but would anyone have an idea of what sort of emblem that Ptolemy might use on the sails of his ships (or standards)? Would he use that 16 pointed star emblem that is found in the Macedonian royal tombs?

You might want to check the reverse of Ptolemy's own coins in Egypt.

Aside form the famous Alexander with the elephant scalp, one recurring theme (followed by later Ptolemys) was the eagle standing on/clutching a thunderbolt.

Thanks so much for this quick reply. It's only a tiny detail but one I wanted to try and get as correct as possible. I'm down to the last 1/4 of the final chapter of my novel and little details like this can be sticking points for me. Evharisto poli!

Hope this is not for a battle scene; all masts would have been stowed.
When you think about, it free-choice is the only possible option.
