Alexander on Mastermind
Forum members in the UK might have watched the quiz show 'Mastermind' last night, where one of the specialist subjects was Alexander the Great.I felt very sorry for the poor contestant, who only got about 4 points (out of 14 questions answered). Of course, I'm only posting this message to boast that I got 13 of the 14 (I had to confess ignorance ... no, temporary amnesia ... of the name of the plain where the army gathered by the Hellespont while Alexander went to Troy).Still, nice to see he got into the media again.All the bestMarcus
Re: Alexander on Mastermind
Hi Marcus ---Just curious: what were the questions? (And the answers?)Honestly, I have no clue what the plain near Troy was...I always like the distinction between History of Events and "Longue Duree" (if my French is correct).Many greetings ---Nick

Re: Alexander on Mastermind
Hi Nick,I can't remember all the questions, but I can some of them:They asked for the name of the Persian slain by Erigyios in single combat (Satibarzanes);
The modern name of the city founded as Alexandria-in-Areia (Herat);
The name of the general who was murdered after the execution for treason of his son, Philotas (er...
);
I think there was one asking for Nearchos' name;
The plain where the army gathered was the plain of Arisbe.Can't remember any others off the top of my head, I'm afraid.All the bestMArcus
