Attalus and/or Arrhidaeus

Post by Jim »

I have been looking into the goings on among the Successors following Alexander's death. I keep coming across events that are variously ascribed to either Attalus or Arrhidaeus (the commander of the funeral procession). I have tried to reconcile which of the two was in control of H. Phrygia when Antigonus attacked the supporters of the then dead Perdiccas. Whichever it was, where was the other guy? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello, In all my research it seems to be a fellow named Arrihidaeus (or Arridaios) who was the artisan/soldier in charge of the funeral carriage. Mary Renault calls him by the name "Arybras" and I also changed his name slightly because of confusion over Alexander's half-brother Arridaois who was one of the joint-kings. Of course in the author's notes I believe the name change is explained.
