Re: quotes
Hi Kody,The short life of glory/long life of obscurity quote was actually refering to the Greek hero- Achilles. However, as Alexander claimed descent from Achilles (amongst others)and viewed him as a role model in many ways the quote has been applied to him as well.P.S- Have you seen the 'quotes' section within this site?P.P.S- I think the 'better to burn out than fade away' quote comes from a Queen song !?regardskit.

Re: quotes
Not Queen, the "better to burn out than fade away" comes from Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps"My my hey hey / Rock and roll is here to stay / It's better to burn out than fade away / My my hey hey"The part that's always puzzled me is two verses later:"The king is gone but he's not forgotten / This is the story of a Johnny Rotten / It's better to burn out 'cause rust never sleeps / The king is gone but he's not forgotten"Even Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols demands to know what Neil Young means, but Neil remains silent.John
Re: quotes
Interesting, I remembered after that I heard that line in one of 'Queens' songs from the 'A kind of magic' album (1986). I think it might be 'Gimme the Prize', but as I haven't got the album with me I can't be sure. Thanks for the info; it just goes to show that song lyrics and quotes can turn up again and again in different contexts!regardsKit

Re: quotes
Well, it is in "Gimme the Prize" from "A Kind of Magic", but the quote was inserted for the album, as it was actually used the the film "Highlander", for which many of the songs on the album were recorded. If I am permitted to be rather pedantic about it, "Gimme the Prize" was played on the car stereo when we first meet the Kurgan in modern day NY - and later he shouts out the quote in question when he meets McLeod in the church.Sorry, anal retention got the better of me there for a moment. All the bestMarcus
