Re: Alexander's best opponent
I take Porus because til then he had been totally unprepared to fight elephants and Porus had a very intimidating force. Alexander figured out how to attack and win! amazing!
Re: Alexander's best opponent
I agree with John that best opponent was Memnon of Rodes. But I see the Gedrosian Desert and Indian rains as a best most dangerouse "opponents" of Alex.Regards

Perhaps I'll play the spoiler here...Alexander's greatest opponent was himself, i.e...his drive and ambition which left his health compromised.Yours Nicator

Re: Alexander's best opponent
I think that Bessus is worthy of consideration. The problems Alexander faced in Bactria/Sogdiana, guerilla warfare etc is something that can never be easily or quickly overcome. This links in with another great opponent faced by Alexander- time- ulitimately he ran out of it.regards,Kit.

Re: Alexander's best opponent
In addition, I would add Alexander's worst enemy was himself: The consumption of fermented squeeze of the grape in excess, everyone's downfall who partakes... But that's what made Alexander stand out more than all the other conquerors, his drive and ambition enabled him to accomplish so much in a short period of time, nicely said.
