I doubt that Mr. Fox found it boring; I suggest that we would not, either, to be a Companion in a re-enactment of probably the greatest battle of antiquity.As for my vote, sadly, I am not as well-read as many here. Arrian is my personal favourite, and I enjoyed my countryman Bosworth's "Tragedy of Triumph" for its detail and passion. An honourable mention to Wood's "Footsteps", which provides an experience deeper than any book, and still offers real (if a little Indiana Jones-style) scholarship: for example, he seems to have found Aornos! and the Cave of Spitamenes.Gary
