Re: Arrian's quote-mistranslation Badian Article?
Well, I am a little offended I am called "single minded." I am not on an agenda. I stated many times, I can care less about the modern political situation. What I do care about is Alexander, and was he really a Hellen. If Peter Green's book is the favorite one on this website, Peter Green certainly in his book applauds Borza, Badian, see his introduction. Also, see pages 6-9 where he states the Macedonains were not greeks and see top of page nine where he even says Alexander I's admittance into the Olympic games was initailly rejected, and then later he was admitted based on ficticious evidence. He gives sources saying that it was Macedonian propaganda to get themselves into the Olympic Games. Personally, I am not a slav, and can care less about slavic claims. It is quite possible, the Macedonians were not Helens, and yet the modern claimees are not Macedonians either. To be blunt, I would rather watch paint dry than to discuss that or even research that. Plus, it is forbiden. I am shocked people are not as open minded about talking about all the quotes in Arian, Plutarch, and Diodorus that imply that Macedonians were not greeks, and the modern political agenda seems to be in everyones way. Who cares about that? What I do care about is Alexander's country, which it was Macedon, not Sparta, and not Athens. The question was was it 100% Hellen or overtime did the Macedonians gradually incorporate hellenic ideas into their culture, yet remain distinct in some areas. That is the issue to me, and that is the question.
