Hi companions, I write to ask any members if they know of any ATG conventions anywhere in the UK or world. As a new comer to these sights its great to talk about my subject withequal intelect and knowledge, I say thanks to you all.Where as society talks about sport, football anything trivial,it would be great to get together with other Alexander devotees just to chat and discuss this fascinating subject, endless hours I can imagine. Thanks to Black Ajax and any feed back would be appreciated .Thanks Alexes desciple

Hello Desciple,I have always wished for a convention of sorts for all ATG freaks to get together and share favorite stories and a common interest. What a total blast that would be. Unfortunately, most of the members of this forum are scattered to the four winds and the chance of an actual get together is slim (though, there do seem to be quite a few members in and around the UK). If u hear otherwise, I'd like to know about it...Nick

Just for the sake of finding out exactly how slim the chances for getting together sometime would be... How many of us live within reasonable travelling distance from London?Regards,Neneh

Ah, the eternal question, Neneh!I know that at least 2 of us do... (and if you do, too, which you imply from your question, that makes 3!) :-)All the bestMarcus

Ah... But wouldn't that be a blast though? Three ATG-fans in the corner of a pub...!
That would show those football crazy regulars!Regards,Neneh

I suspect we'd have to be careful about the choice of pub... I can think of a few where we wouldn't last 5 minutes with our hoity-toity Alexandrine ways... :-)M

The obvious meeting place must be the British Museum - a cocktail reception by Nectanebo's sarcophagus .There must be many objects there that Alexander could have seen - the bricks of Babylon, the carvings of Persepolis, the Elgin marbles, the Oxus treasure. Maybe we should have a seance to raise the ghosts of their former owners. Last week when I was there I saw the mummy of an Egyptian noble who died around 310BC - I wondered if he'd seen Alexander in person. I think these handshakes with history are fascinating, like wondering whose pockets old coins have been through, and what services or goods they have bought.RegardsSusan

All events start with an idea and I've been
thinking a lot about this idea in the past couple
of days, I'm American so unless you
companions want to get a on a plane, it's gonna
be hard for you
But I'm thinking of getting something together at
the University where I go to school. It wouldn't be
just Alexander but all ancient Greek materials,
we have a large drama department and I'd love
to see them do an old style Greek play like
"Antigone" or "Ajax"(I'd really love that). Also have
Greek dancing, food, music and symposiums
for scholars, I'm into wargaming so I'd like to
market it to that end, a big war game crowd
doing all of Alexnader's battles plus Marathon,
Thermopylae, Salamis, etc.
I think it would be important to make a
statement now because the classics of Greece
and Rome are being discarded in most
educational circles and a convention would be a
great way of promoting restoration of the
classics....I'm going to talk with some of my
friends and professors about this and shoot for
a goal of sometime in spring 2005, it's a long
way off but I think all good things take an
immense amount of planning, maybe if we all
get together and pool our ideas and resources
we can organize some kind of cross-continental
convention, one in America, one in the UK. Just
remember, someone needs to do this! I think
we can all agree on that, not just for Alexander
but for the cause of the classics
Please email me with your thoughts an ideas
and all the bestBlack Ajax
