That's a drawing of one of Charles LeBrun's Alexander paintings in the Loivre. Of course at one time LeBrun was director of the Loivre so no problem guessing why his paintings ended up there. He also did some tapestries.

There's another equally nice Le Brun etching of the wounded Porus being brought before Alexander who is astride his horse. The copies surfacing today on Ebay are coming from a turn of the century edition of The World's Greatest Events - a series of "picture books" of history so to speak. Both Le Brun images have been severely cropped for the book - the original etchings were landscape views - and they are much smaller than depicted online and printed on very thin paper. Okay, I admit I still bought them, but that was a while ago when I paid only a couple of dollars apiece! :-)Linda Ann

There is a book, no loner in print, on Charles LeBrun published by Abrams I think. My big complaint is that even tho it is a large format book, the large paintings were split across two pages.
