One of the most remarkable and dramatic works of antiquity, as impressive now as when it was created. Yes, it would be interesting to have a replica at home! I have played with the idea of making one, in a scale more appropriate to my abilities of course. My motivation for this is partly a desire to fill in the blanks, to replace the missing parts destroyed in the disaster that saved the remainder, but de-sanitise them. Look around the field; we see no broken weapons, no pools of blood, no body parts. Even the Persian trooper with Alexander's lance through him doesn't rate a shriek or a grimace. I would bring the full story of ancient war to the mosaic. But never having made a mosaic before, I might start with a simple portrait of Alexander :-)
