Well, Karen's avatar is not the best reconstruction that is out there of Alexander's face, for me. His lips are too thin to be Alexander's. This one is much better:

The picture looks like a development of a famous Alexander head. I noticed even the different coloured eyes.

Take a look at some early Jim Morrison pictures. Who as coincidence admired Alexander as much that he cocked and carried his head the same as Alexander. Coincidence also that Jim Morrison was played in a movie by The Guy who player Philip an Alexander both directed by Stone.

Yep, it is the bust that's in Athens And yes, it hasn't got Alexander's famous "cheeks", maybe because the bust was made when he was younger...

I said in other post that actor Gale Harold is almost the same too, except for the height. He has his greek profile, full lips, and one eye a little lighter than the other... I find a tremendous resemblence with Alexander. Do you agree?

Nope, Morrison wasnt bisexual. Dont judge by Stone's movie (whiich i dont know if it had any scene that may suggested that). Morrison was a womanizer, but he also had a big love in his life, Pamela Curson. At least in the book that i have read about him, there is no mention of him being a bi sexual.

I haven't watched Stone's movie, but since Stephen Davis' biography about Morrison (Jim Morrison: Life, Death, Legend) he has mostly been recognized as a bisexual. Quoting from the introduction of the book:

Jim Morrison tried to set the night on fire. As lead singer of the Doors, he was an acid evangelist on a suicide mission to deprogram his generation from what he saw as a prisonlike conformity to social and sexual norms. He was a seer, an adept, a bard, a drunk, a bisexual omnivore [..]

Although I don't know why the author does such claims, there were gossips before the writing of the book suggesting the same. So the rumor is out there. If he truly was bisexual I know not, but my intuition tells me he was. Being a womanizer or having a feminine love-of-his-life doesn't have to do with that. Angelina Jolie is also bisexual and most of her lovers have been male. Is widely known that most bisexuals have a preference for a specific sex...

If he was bisexual or not, he only knows. But there is proof suggesting it.

The person to argue with if you don't think it looks like Alexander would be Lysippos... possibly... or whoever carved the Pergamon head. That's what I did -- took the Pergamon head and made it as lifelike as I could.

That other reconstruction also used a bust, can't remember which off the top of my head. I've considered doing one with that one as well.

Great Job Karen.

Out of all the original Statues thats the one I love as to say its tattood on my Arm resting above my families names. But with the different pictures the statue looks a little different in each one.Your picture looks pretty good to me.

Karen, you did that? It really good. That is the statue I always think of as his "older" slef. The wrinkled brow and the more tired look.

I tend to think of ATG has having a bit darker hair, not so blond, but who knows? I can see how compelling his appearnace would have been when looking him in the face. Wow.

Glad you like it. Though no reconstruction of Alexander is EVER going to please everyone

I used the cropped version for the avatar because if I used the whole picture, ie. with hair & background showing, at avatar size he looks sort of weird. Not like the large one at all. Low-res plays heck with faces.

For those who might wonder how long it took, it was more than a few hours.

I tried to leave the expression exactly as carved -- kept the eyelids exactly as they were, added hair for the brows only where it seemed it should naturally be, did only coloration, no change in shading, on the lips. Interesting thing about the Pergamon bust is that it has totally different expressions depending on which angle you view it from and which angle it's lit from. I did another one of a different angle (but not nearly as good as this one, so I'm not showing it) and he looks much more angry.

Another thing interesting about the Pergamon bust touches on what Athena's Owl wrote -- it's his older self. But it looks like two ages in one face -- lips and chin look very young, twenties, whereas the brow looks forties. I figure that's the mark of the strain of living life the way he did.

It ain't perfect... I'm sure, for instance, that he had moles/beauty spots and possibly scars on his face, but with ancient portraiture they would have been shown with paint, if they were shown at all, and the paint is long gone. And a face never looks quite natural if those sorts of things (other than scars) are not there. Maybe in future versions I'll just guess.

Points for anyone who figured out that the background is a shot of a set from the Oliver Stone movie

I don't think Lyssipos has carved that bust, he was the creator of the superb Azara Herm (well, the bust that the Azara Herm copied), and to me it is much, much better than the Pergamon head, and of course is more alike to the image of Alexander portrayed in coins and so on...

Karen You nailed it in the head,It looks different from different angles and with different light. Which is how Lissipos understood or didnt understand Alexander. A face that had expresion but could be mirrored differently. I like the Statue more than the others. and have seen copies of others for sale in Greece but never that one.
