BMCR has a new review of a fairly recent book on Alexander's coins and his image:

http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/bmcr/2007/2007-08-58.html
Carmen Arnold-Biucchi, Alexander's Coins and Alexander's Image.
Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Art Museums, 2006. Pp. 84. ISBN
10: 1-891771-41-8. ISBN 13: 978-1-891771-41-5. $20.00.

Reviewed by Andrew Stewart, University of California at Berkeley
It is a small tome of only 84 pages and apparently Karsten Dahmen's The Legend of Alexander the Great on Greek and Roman Coins (London and New York: Routledge, 2007), "has a far more detailed text and exhaustive coverage of all relevant types." However, we are told that Dahmen's book contains only poor to mediocre photographs of the coins whilst Arnold-Biucchi's book has excellent images. I figured that many of you may be interested, especially as Amazon has Alexander's Coins and Alexander's Image on sale for only $13.60.

Check the BMCR review for some very interesting comments on the coins. I wanted to post the whole review here but was not sure if there are copyright restrictions, so I wrote to BMCR and if permission is granted I will post it later.

Best regards,

Hi amyntoros,

I have an article appearing in The Celator (a "Journal of Ancient & Medieval Coinage") next month (September 2007) under the title Is the Gold Porus Medallion a Lifetime Portrait of Alexander the Great? It had its origins in the thread on The Lost treasure of Alexander on Pothos:

If anyone would like to get a copy, they can contact its editor Kerry Wetterstrom at Kerry@celator.com

Best wishes,

Andrew

I have the Dahmen book and I agree that some of the images are a bit difficult to distinguish. It's not an easy book to read for a non-numismatist (I have only started and have struggled a bit), but it is fascinating. I look forward to reading the BMCR review and possibly this new book, if it's not too difficult!
