Hello. You don't know me, seeing as I pretty much just lurk here, so I might as well introduce myself... I'm a high school student with a passion for classics, and as you might guess, my name refers to the city, not the bone. For a while I've been lurking around this forum and I really love it here, and have learned a great deal (though I'm a bit shy about entering the discussions myself, ignorant as I am.) But anyway, it's a perfect atmosphere for discussion--a nice mix of true academics and amateur scholars. I love the ideas that are tossed around here, and the members seem to have a very solid knowledge base.

Anyway, as much as I adore Alexander, I'm interested in other classics topics and would love to extend my lurking to other forums. Are there any forums out there with a similar atmosphere to Pothos that cover other aspects of the classical world besides ATG? (I'm more into Greece than Rome, though the more time I spend in Latin class the more that shifts... ) In any case, I can't seem to find any sort of online discussion forum at all similar to Pothos. Are there any such sites out there?

Hi Illium and a belated welcome. It's wonderful to know that there are still high school students with a passion for the classics.

I think we've been asked your question before without getting much in the way of answers. I don't know of any forum which covers all aspects of ancient Greece - understandable, I think, as that's a rather large topic.

Now, there's the Greek Military History and Archaeology Forum at Roman Army Talk. The title says it all and they definitely do stay on topic (whereas Pothos let's digressions through every once in a while if other members seem interested.) If the subject interests you though it's a great forum - I'm not a member but read the posts fairly frequently. Many of the members are re-enactors, but don't let that throw you because all these guys really know and care about their ancient military history!

Then there's the private forum on Yahoo – Alexandriaeschate. Although the primary topic is Alexander and his times, discussions on social, cultural, religious topics (of the classical world), etc., are welcomed. It's a small group which has been very quiet for some time now, but the members are very friendly and if you were to join and post I suspect a lively discussion would ensue.

You'd think there would be more forums covering aspects of the classical world – and other famous people from those times - but I don't know of any. Am aware of a few excellent blogs and there's Rogueclassicsm, of course – but none of these are active forums. Anyone else have suggestions?

There are also the forums at Historynet.com. Under "historical Events" you'll find "Ancient Era".
