More on Alexander's name

I saw a post a few days ago about Alexander's last name, but this is about his first name. If he was known as "Alexandros", it does seem an awful shame to be remembered for all time by an incorrect interpretation of his name. Is he known as "Alexandros The Great" or suchlike anywhere today?Rochelle

Welcome companion :-)Megas Alexandros is what it sounds like in Greek. I don't think that he's called Alexandros in any other country. There are variations like Iskander (Arabic) or Oleksandr (Ukrania ?)... Any other strange variations in other countries?Regards,
Yiannis

HelloI like "Megas Alexandros". Sounds like an awesome name for a spaceship (who knows, maybe the first going to Mars, who is, by chance, the God of war?;).
Regarding the question, I would assume Alexander is named in different ways in different languages, but the essence is the same. In Spanish, we call him "Alejandro el Grande" (literally "Alexander the Great"), but it is more common to refer to him as "Alejandro Magno" (where Magno is a latin word meaning exactly "great", as in, for example, Charlemagne).
Best wishesAlejandro

I've also heard him referred to as "The Invincible Alexander".

In Portuguese : Alexandre [like the greek vocative], but 'x' is pronounced 'sh'.
The whole thing would be : Alexandre o Grande. Or Alexandre da Maced+¦nia.

ALEXANDROS IS THE NAME OF PARIS IN ILIAD.
ARABIAN PEOPLE CANNOT PRONOUNCE THE LETTER X AND BECAUSE AL IS THE ARABIAN ARTICLE CALL HIM AL ISKANDAR (ALEXANDER,AL IXANDER AL SKIANDER). THEY THINK THAT AL IS THE ARTICLE!
