'The Search for Alexander the Great' video
Hello everyone, I just discovered this wonderful site a few days ago, and I'm hoping (desperately, I'm not ashamed to admit) that someone here in this oasis of Alexander-lovers can help me, although I know this is kind of a forward thing for someone who's a newbie and a complete stranger to you all to ask. I'm looking for a copy of what is apparently the rarest video that ever existed, the 1981 PBS/BBC miniseries The Search for Alexander the Great with Nicholas Clay. I read on a message board at IMDb.com that Nicholas Clay's own *family* doesn't even have a copy, so I realize my chances for success with this are slim. But if anyone here has a copy and would be willing to make one for me, I would certainly be willing to compensate you for your time/effort/the wear and tear on your VCRs, or share anything from my rather meager collection of Alexander-related programs. And it doesn't have to be a great-quality copy or even in NTSC format -- I'll take what I can get.
Thanks for your time. Rebecca

Only thing I could find:
http://lcmarc.dra.com/lcmarc/AAV-0807You may want to contact the original producer et al. although this one seems for sale at a steep price.

Thank you for the welcome, Thalestris...I have no idea how much I'll be participating around here -- you are all so well-read, I'm a bit intimidated! -- but I appreciate it.
Xxx, I'm familiar with the link you posted -- it's the first of four, one for each episode of the miniseries. They are pages from a library's online catalog -- you'll note the link allowing for the tapes to be reserved -- but I've been unable to determine exactly which library. The address http://lcmarc.dra.com/LCMARC takes you to a page that says something like, 'You are now searching the Library of Congress bibliographic file', but then goes on to say that Dra.com is not affiliated with the Library of Congress. So maybe it's the LOC, or maybe not. Still working on that. In any case, the $150-200 *per tape* is out of my financial league.
I've considered possibly contacting someone associated with the production of the miniseries or using a video search service such as A Million and One World-Wide Videos, but I have a feeling that either one of those options, too, would end up running into more money than I could afford. I'm not cheap, mind you -- if I had the money, I wouldn't hesitate. But I don't. Also, I don't know how many of you may have visited the message board at IMDb.com for the program, but as I alluded to in my initial post, there's a message there from someone representing Nicholas Clay's family, searching for a copy -- I would surely think that they have access to the producers, and since Nicholas Clay passed away a few years back, if anyone would be able to lay their hands on a copy, it would be them. But they haven't, which does not bode well for a non-connected person such as myself.
It's nice to know I'm not alone in my frustration, though.
Rebecca

Oh my, Nicholas Clay passed away a few years back?? I did not know this. I really admired his performance as Lancelot in John Boorman's "Excalibur".Now if only John Boorman could do an ATG movie, hmmm.Do not be intimidated, Rebecca. We are all friends of Alexandros Philippou Argaiadis here .Cheers,Amazon Queen
Re: 'The Search for Alexander the Great' video
What about trying the other actors in the series - Gabriel Byrne, Julian Glover (filming Troy at present), Jane Lapotaire ? I think most of the other cast members mentioned on Imdb are dead.Susan

Hi,
Until I found this site I was begining to think I dreamed the whole series. I saw it on PBS in 1982 and have also been looking for it. Maybe with the current intrest (Oliver Stone and Martin Scorsese) in Alexander the tape will finally be released. If I find a copy I will let the Forum know, as I hope you will do the same for me.Thanks Jo
