"It's a great story but if you go for surface events it will never work, you have to get into a theme, and find the character," he says. "It's very hard to do, I'm not sure I have, but I'm about to take the shot. "I really believe in Colin Farrell. I think Colin's got true grit and I think he will surprise people as Alexander. He has tremendous grace and speed and he's a great athlete, which Alexander was. "And he's got that mercurial Irish temperament which also Alexander had, there's a very strong resemblance between Macedonians and Irish for some reason. Four weeks from now I can tell you more, I hope to survive and by February be smiling! But this is tough, very tough."
