Get It Together
Hi Pothonians.I think we all wait with Great expectations for the on comming movie,We all have expectancies and fears.I think it would have been great instead of different movie productions, maybe they should have all got together and maybe made a trilogy of movies, I feel one three hour film about such a life as full maybe wont capture the essence of our Great man. There was a movie about Jesus called the Greatest Story Ever Told. It had a whole host of great actors even John Wayne as a Cowboy Roman Centurian.Alexanders story to me would be the Greatest story ever told to consolidate all the great screen play writers Directors, producers and actors would really have been more fitting for our great man and I feel more accurate. It would be Leonardo as Alexander and Mel Gibson as Philip for me, help me choose your characters and actors....even Sean Bean as Memnon.regards

Re: Get It Together
Good idea but it has been got together here on this forum years ago. Jeannie picked out a few of our suggestions and put them onto a site complete with pictures. It might still be up. I have a feeling the site could have inspired oli and co to pull his socks out and hurry up and do it. Thanks needs to go to Jeannie for that link, together with this forum for helping to create some interest, so now we wait.

Re: Get It Together
I think your right Kenny, there are great expectations for this film. It would be nice to see a collective group of directors, producers etc., get together and make a trilogy. It is a good idea. There is a trilogy of films being made called 'Macedonia's Alexander the Great' the first one will be released this October (probably just to get under Oliver Stone's skin). I don't know how seriously to take these films, but they are out there, I guess. I am not sure when we will see the other two films.I liked Jeanne's casting ideas, myself. The only one she mentioned in the group that actually got in the film was Brian Blessed. She thought he would be a good Cleitus. Instead I guess he will have to be a good Leonidas because that is the part he got. Some of her other choices are interesting, as well. I think Jude Law would have made a really good Alexander.I just don't know about DiCaprio as Alexander. I think the jury is still out on that one, for me. I do like Mel Gibson and I wouldn't be unhappy if he played Philip. I think he would be great. I like Val Kilmer as well and I think he is good casting for Philip. Angelina Jolie I think will be fine, as well. And then there is Colin Farrell. A lot of criticism has been leveled at him concerning his ability to do this role (at least a lot I have read, not specifically here or the regular place I post). Some I think, unfairly (I am not a Colin groupie, here, but I do think he is a good actor). No one has seen this film and we don't know what his performance will look like. I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion (its what makes the world go round), and thats fine. But no matter what, some are going to like what Stone did and others are not. In such a wonderful and complicated life such as Alexander's, it will be hard to capture the full essence and the scope of this life on screen. I am not sure there is a happy medium for everyone, whether it's Oliver Stone or Baz Luhrmann as directors, Jude Law, Leo DiCaprio or Colin Farrell as Alexander. The latter of the 3 actors got the job, the film is in the can, and as Kenny says, now we wait. So, it's done. I am willing to give it a try and see what Stone has to offer. I am sorry to go on so long. I am not posting anything thats new for anyone. It's just my 2 cents, so please take it for what it is worth (I am just one of the newbies, around here).Dara
Re: Get It Together
I had a horrific thought - that someone with the drive and temperament of Alexander is someone like Gordon Ramsey (apologies to non-UK people - he is a top chef). Volatile, a perfectionist, doesn't suffer fools gladly - he even has the same colouring. Hephaestion has been compared to a combination of Alastair Campbell and Peter Mandelson - neither of them attractive characters, although Campbell has good looks and Mandelson charm... Philip could be someone like Donald Rumsfeld - a business man who does what he wants...Real people are going to be nearer to the mark than actors, and sadly they aren't nearly as "sexy"..Eumenes - Robin Cook, Parmenion - arthur scargill, Philotas - Earl Spencer..all powerful people..
Re: Get It Together
Hi LindaI couldnGÇÖt help smiling while reading your post! Certainly I agree with your choice of GÇ£actorsGÇ¥ for Philip and Hephaistion. I heard about Ramsay, though I never saw his programme (nor, sadly, tried his food; too expensive). Robin Cook as Eumenes is cool; I donGÇÖt know anything about his ideology, but physically he can be a convincing Eumenes (I also thought about Blunkett, though being blind is usually not a plus for a secretary-turned-into-general). I donGÇÖt know who Arthur Scargill is, and Earl Spencer is a relative of Princess Diana, but my knowledge about him stops there.Maybe Gordon Brown for Parmenion? Not that he looks like him or is old but, on the other hand, every time he suggests something, Tony Blair seems almost too happy to do the opposite. The phrase GÇ£And so will IGǪ were I ParmenionGÇ¥ just came to my mind! ;)Kind regardsAlejandro
Re: Get It Together
Pretty funny the way British Politicians have been picked for the film.Arthur Scargill was a union leader in the 80s who led the miners to destruction a left wing socalist mouthpiece, more like demostyenese than a macedonian general.the others well all a bit poncy to me and the royals even more useless.regardskenny
Re: Get It Together
Ah, well, it is debatable whether Scargill led them to destruction, or the Coal Baord was intent on destroying them anyway, and they put up the best fight they could. My point was to find people of power in the modern world, but, Donald Rumsfeld - poncey??Earl Spencer I put in because he is the weaker link of a greater dynasty - not a very good analogy, though.Gordon Brown, as Parmenion.. maybe.

Re: Get It Together
Hi Alejandro,A rather good summing up! :-)If you want validation for having a blind general, look into Jan Zizka (I think that was his name), a 13th-century Bohemian warlard who was extremely successful - and completely blind. All the bestMarcus

Re: Get It Together
I rather think Jordan would be more appropriate as Thais - after all, the press seems to enjoy printing photos of her in scenes that make the party at Persepolis look like a vicarage picnic...All the bestMarcus
