Getting Excited Yet?

What I am still trying to figure out is if the movie is suited for children. My two nephews (13 and 15) are great Alexander fans and they (and their parents) will love me if I take them to the opening night in the cinema - but I am a bit worried about the violence. Anyone any thoughts?Jona

13-15 year olds are more than old enough to see violent movies. I mean, they do play those videogames do they not?I have never been one for sheltering children, however, I would make sure to point out historical errors of which with Stone we will have quite a few.And one should discuss such movies in detail afterwards.

Lane Fox's book, The Making of Alexander has been out for about a week now. I've only had time to speed-read through it (and I'm not sure that I want to know everything before I see the film) but it goes into great detail to explain *why* there will be historical inaccuracies. Most of it hinges on cost - millions for every extra location - so there is no scene at Persepolis, for example. Characters live longer than they should, events take place at the wrong location and sometimes the wrong people are involved, all to keep the cost under control and condense Alexander's whole life into a 2+ hour long movie. Oh, and Roxane has a *big* featured role, so we can expect to see lots more of her than Alexander probably did! And as far as I can tell (sorry folks) the only two battles we will see are the ones we already know about.Linda Ann

I'm sure they'll be OK with the violence. Do they have any sort of classification in the Netherlands? I guess it might be more a question of whether you (and your siblings) want the children to be exposed to it - from one of the pictures I've seen there will be a *lot* of blood, particularly visible in the aftermath of Gaugamela - in the magazine I was reading there's a picture of Alexander walking through the piles of bodies and he is drenched in the stuff.Thrilling, maybe, and something I'm sure teenage boys will *love* - with their mother 'love' it?All the bestMarcus

Thanks all, for replying.I admit the boys will probably love it, that's not the point; but what I am trying to find out is whether they will be allowed to enter. I can not find anything about classification, and if I tell them "you're invited to come to the first evening of Alexander", I want to be certain that I can live up to their expectations. Let's use the *The Shinning* with Jack Nicholson for example; This movie was voted the number one scare film of all time just recently (I'm sure this will be subject to change) and Steven King was furious how the producers re-wrote the screen play but this is the norm for all movies plus Oliver Stone has admitted this fact when he was asked this question about his movie. Not sure how the ratings work in Europe but in the US it is rated R which means no one under 17 must be accompanied by an adult, minimum age 13.

Well yes Andrew I probably could do it better. If you know Stone's history as a filmmaker he rarely ever follows history.Alexander has to do 250 million minimum to be a success, tapes and DVDs are gravy.Farrell although popular with critics has yet to prove to be a draw, but as I said in an earlier post, he has much the same background as Crowe and this movie should make him A-List.Although as the time draws closer for the movie, my excitement wanes for whatever reason.
