Two books on Alexandria, Egypt
Alexandria, The Sunken City, by William La Riche, photography by Stephane Compoint, and Alexandria Rediscovered by Jean Yves Empereur are books that I have just found in the library. Hope you can find them too, as Alexandria Rediscovered discusses in chapter 8 the search for Alexander's Tomb. This is a very amusing piece of information about all the tombs in which Alexander's body is said to have been buried. Caught my fancy so I have checked it out to read at home.Alexandria Rediscovered was published in France and Alexandria The Sunken city was published in London.

Thanks. I've always found the various ideas about Alexanders actual burial place fascinating. I'll have to put those on my ever increasing list of books to read.
Re: Two books on Alexandria, Egypt
Thank you for mentioning these books. I own Alexandria Rediscovered, and other books on Alexandria. Jean-Yves Empereur did two great TV specials on the Sunken City, and I taped it. Alexandria, the City and the Site is the one I have, not the Sunken City. Also, a new book is out by Michael Haag, an authority on Alexandria, called Alexandria, City of Memory, and it is very good. I grabbed that one, too, to own, after reading it in the library. But Alexander himself who founded his first great City never saw it built, never saw what his former general Ptolemy I and his son Ptolemy II did to make that city the Queen of the Mediterranean. Alexander would have been ecstatic, and I believe that, even after its defeat, its near-demise, and now, its resurrection. The new Bibliotheca Alexandreia is a modern marvel. I wish I could go there to see it. I ramble so much...
