Some of us understand Greek and don't appreciate this kind of inappropriate response. Too bad this very valuble forum is subjected to some of the utter juvenile behavior that i've noted on here lately. Let's stick to the subject and behave like adults (even those of us who are not necessarily Classical scholars but appreciate the history and feed-back that is given on this site.)Kenny, have you ever visited Greece? Once you have observed the magnificence of what is still surviving from that ancient culture you will have no doubt that they were a great people (and still are!)

facts. By the mere fact I am hated here either for being Jewish (and as an "unsaved man going to hell") Why do you continue to bring up your ethnicity?Who on this board is saying anything bad about Jews?
I could certainly understand your position if someone were attacking Isreal Right to Exist ( as many anti Semitic idiots would do) or making out right anti Semetic Remarks ect. Since you have knowlege about Isreali history why not point out how Jewish Historian Flavius viewed the Greek Macedonians? I assume your familiar with his writings.

Hey Jim:
My idol is not Borza. I like him, and find him valuable, but like others here, Peter Green is still my favorite. Also, I never intended to say Borza was Jewish, somehow people misunderstood me, maybe I made a typo, he is NOT Jewish as far as I know, Borza is not a common Jewish last name.
As per my comments on a Greek dream to go east, can someone answer this for me, since I am not an expert on other greek history:? What other greek city states did any preparation for a war of revenge or liberation against Persia? Also, I am a little confused by one of your comments about the Greeks leading with the MACEDONIANS an asian crusade. I assume all of us see the ancient sources showing the Greek southern city states sent very little and bottom barrel troops to Macedonia's army. Thus, did I misunderstand you? Thanks

Judaea is the Greek word for Judah, Judah and Israel were two kingdoms long before Alexander's time, about 400 years before that.

It was Greek and Roman, but I do not know who founded these cities on top of Assyrian ones probably. Today, this is in the Golan heights, territory won in the 6 day war and then again in the Yom Kippur war.

I'm being a bit thick today. So ... were Judah and Israel separate entities, and did they carry those names in Alexander's time?M

":Also, I am a little confused by one of your comments about the Greeks leading with the MACEDONIANS an asian crusade" 1st of all you are unable to comprehend what I said which means you do simply read what you choose to pick out I use the Spanish Conquistadors as an analogy to describe WHAT would motivate a conquest POWER ,MONEY,POLITICAL INFLUENCE ect ect Thus these were primary motives of course Apparently your incapable of comprehension In addition MACEDONIA was a HOMERIC SOCIETY - This is something that GREEN mentions in his book-I doubt you even comprehend GREEN - A certain amount of this was present Heroism honer (phitotimou) are indeed Homeric traits.Macedonian Kings did consider themselves derived from Greek mythical heros lengends ect.In addition ATG himself considered ACHILLES his ancestor thus in a conquering crusade ATG could be seen as the ACHILLES off his day and even surpass his beleived ancestors heroic feets. Thus Macedonia not Athens or Sparta would be the hero's of the Greek world. After the battle of Granicus ATG sent back to Athens with 300 persian armors an inspription that read Alexander son of the Phillip and the Hellenes except the Laconians Of course some historians dismiss this as pure propaganda. What should be noted however is the number 300 and the mention of Sparta Another words it was MACEDONIA not SPARTA or ATHENS who avenged the 300 Heroric Spartans who died heroricly at Thermopolye .Here ATG is saying that MACEDONIA via ATG himself is the greatest power ever seen in the Greek world and is explicitly making a point of it and deserves the HOMERIC HONOR What other Greek state planned an invasion of Persia ? The answer is Sparta Military conquests are usually motivated by several strateigic objectives and as the mission changes so do the objectives to some degree

Jim,I think you crossed the line here. The fact that someone sees things differently from you doesn't mean that person is incapable of logical reasoning. I am almost sure that you do know that, if you want to have a healthy discussion, you must not insult the other person. Otherwise, it will seem that you have no other argument but your insults, and certainly you donGÇÖt want that. All the best,Alejandro
