Alexander Exhibit in Sydney, Australia
This one is for Paralus in particular (lucky boy) although surely we have other Australian members and visitors.

The video doesn't seem to show all that many pieces from ancient times, but it still looks like a fabulous exhibition.
Best regards,

That looks as if it's the same one that was in Amsterdam at the beginning of the year (or the tail end of last year). I really wanted to go to that, but couldn't arrange the time.
Please go, Paralus, if you can, and report back!
(BTW, I'm not surprised the video doesn't show many ancient pieces - as I understood it, most of the exhibits are from the Renaissance onwards, having been collected during the days of Imperial Russia. Not much in the way of archaeology, therefore.)

Re: Alexander Exhibit in Sidney, Australia
Well spotted Amyntoros. Seems this has been kept somewhat quiet - though I imagine the Museum will be all tricked up in promotional material for the coming Easter term school break. Nice part of town with the State library, Hyde Park, St Mary's Cathederal and the Cook and Philip Aquatic centre.
I'm already registered for tickets. Will be interested to see how well booked this is (tickets do not go on sale for some weeks - no date as yet)
By the way Amyntoros, I shall be attending the Oz Museum in Sydney. Haven't been to the OZ for some years.

I don't suppose you'll accept my having had only one hour of sleep last night as an excuse?Paralus wrote: By the way Amyntoros, I shall be attending the Oz Museum in Sydney. Haven't been to the OZ for some years.

Eh? What did you originally put? I never noticed (probably also due to lack of sleep!)amyntoros wrote:I don't suppose you'll accept my having had only one hour of sleep last night as an excuse?Paralus wrote: By the way Amyntoros, I shall be attending the Oz Museum in Sydney. Check the heading of your own post, my dear Watson; the editing has not initiated any retrospective changes in the projected title banners, hence S..Idney.
But it has in mine, egad the game's afoot.

When you think about, it free-choice is the only possible option.

Re: Alexander Exhibit in Sydney, Australia
The poster [Amyntoros] doesn't know (as we do) that Sidney (meaning capital city of NSW) is just a literal translation of the Spanish Sydeny. Amyntoros will also have seen Sidney used in other contexts in sources to mean the city of Saanich Peninsula, Vancouver Island.
Best wishes,
Michael.

Ah, so I see! I just looked at the thread title at the very top of the page.agesilaos wrote:Check the heading of your own post, my dear Watson; the editing has not initiated any retrospective changes in the projected title banners, hence S..Idney.

Well, well, well!

"Extraordinary!" I exclaimed.
"Commonplace," remarked Holmes.
Re: Alexander Exhibit in Sydney, Australia
Okay guys.
While you're all having fun at my expense I can improve on the entertainment. I had seriously little sleep the night before and went to bed at 3 a.m. on the night of the posting. At 4:30 a.m. I was awoken by my son and his friends. (Why, oh why did I think the dramas would end once the teenage years were over?) By 6:30 a.m, everything was quiet, but I had to leave by 9:30 a.m. so I decided I might as well stay awake. An hour or so later I began to post on Pothos, and I wasn't sure whether I needed to put "Australia" in the subject header of this thread. After all, how many cities are there of that name? So I Googled "city of Sidney". Yes, I know - with the incorrect spelling. And up came sites for Sidney, Ohio and Sidney, Nebraska, all on the first page. Don't you think that anyone with half a functioning brain would have realized there was something wrong? That "Sidney" Australia should have been the first hit? And maybe there was something wrong with my spelling? Nope. I just added Australia and went about my posting. Good job I didn't decided to do any online banking before I went out!
Have fun fellas. Your time will come.

I was kind enough to leave the US Sidneys out.
And, yes, our time will come.
