Stone's Alexander the Great
The UK Daily Telegraph June 12..."Jonathan Rhys Meyers career certainly seems to be proceeding apace:he has just landed a plum role in Oliver Stone's forthcoming Alexander the Great...."I've got to grow my hair, and put weight on so that I can fit into the suits of armour.....I'm playing Cassander, one of Alexander's closest friends, but fortunately I won't have to go into the homosexual stuff. That'll be for Colin Farrell, who is playing the lead" Don't you just love him. Growing his hair AND putting on weight. Gosh.Chris
Re: Stone's Alexander the Great
Who can possibly take Leo seriously as ATG?Stone might come up with something worthwhile
but I'm not crazy about the Lusty Leprechaun
I'd have preferred someone like Ed Norton
.. I.E a proven talent.

Re: Stone's Alexander the Great
I originally thought that the best type of Alexander film would be a 'Carry On' film, if they can't come up with a script & cast of less than Shakespearean grandeur; but now I think it's possible that with their choice of actors, both the Stone and Luhrmann films will end up as jokes. If you don't know what a Carry On film is, you can read about them at http://www.carryonline.comThey are 1950s and 1960s English farces, in which the busty women always lose their bras and the pompous men's trousers drop to reveal inappropriate underwear. They did many historical dramas - the French revolution, Cleopatra, The Afghan wars etc but the script was almost always the same - battle-axe wife, hen-pecked husband, busty blonde (slavegirl/lady-in-waiting/peasant) .
They were funny and at least made no pretensions to being history.

Coming from Scotland I know all about
'Carry On'..ooh er Mrs!!! Not a bad idea ...Carry on Alexander!
I suppose Carry On Cleo covered
that type of story I think Stone is hoping Farrell does
a Russel Crowe for him...I wouldnt bet on it.

Re: Stone's Alexander the Great
I am just mindboggled about this interest in ATG. But at least with Leo, it will always make it easy for me to trace this thread. From Jack on the Titanic to Louis XIV in The Iron Mask to Alexander the Great. I am really impressed with Hollywood and their acute observations. Well, as I just said on the site that Susan Holmes has given to find Leo, I am happy that the mystery is solved. I had seen Leo in the shopping center, and so now I am certain that his most unforgettable feature is his eyes. Wow! What a day this one is.Thanks, everyone.
Re: ATG Movies
Why do you say that? Is the release date of each movie planned to coincide with the Olympic games by chance?

"Carry On Across the Granicus", perhaps?Or "Carry On Bucephalus"?Even when in his sixties, I think Sid James would have been an excellent Alexander - better than Richard Burton was. Kenneth Williams as Darius, maybe... and Barbara Windsor as Roxane. What a classy film that would have been!Marcus
Re: ATG Movies
I don't know about that but Stone's Alexander is 2004,Luhrman's 2005.
I can't wait for Stone's version;from what I hear the script sounds amasing and Colin will do an excelent job-lots of people judge his acting without ever seeing any of it because his language is explicit and he smokes(not that they've ever bothered to actually read an interview-the man is profane but also very smart and smoking is a personal choice)but the bottom line is Colin is a great actor. If you don't belive me,see "Phone both";he has an incredible range of emotions and you couldn't tell he was Irish if you tried(as it is in all the movies he doesn't play Irish in).So I think,if anyone can do Alexander justice,Colin can.

Hi all,I am very happy, that this Film comes out. Moreover I am greek and that makes me proud. That's history for everyone!! I hope that tis Film is going to be based on real facts. The worst thing you can do is to change the facts. Specially HOLLYWOOD is able to do that. Let's hope that this Film gaines a Lot of OSCARS.Regards,
