I find it a bit difficult to believe that the Sacred Band was made of exclusively 'gay' couples, as the modern view seems to make out. It would have been a bit difficult to find that many exclusive couples in a comparatively small city with the necessary age, wealth and fitness. One or both of the couples may have been married, as well as having a close bond with another, maybe younger, man.
