Greetings Tre,
Friesians *do* make wonderful scenic horses- as per the Ladyhawke horse. But if they wanted showy, an Andalusian would have been nice and perhaps more likely to "work", though both are too tall. On the other hand, how tall are these actors? Maybe a taller horse was necessary to create the right image of stature in the director's eyes?
Historical accuracy is always a hope, but seldom expected. I am trying to think of the movie as a costume drama about a *similar* person- not ATG- then I think I could handle whatever they make of the story. If it turns out as well as David Lean's "Lawrence", I think that would do
Regards,
Sikander

Re: Photos from the set of 'Alexander'
Hi all:I don't like the streaks in his hair either, they look fake as heck. But his costume is based totally on the Alexander mosaic -- bet when they're really shooting they'll make the tack match too -- and guess what? On that mosaic his hair is dark with light streaks. Since that's the only close to contemporary colour portrait of him known, they're following it, which makes sense. Alas, the mosaic artist made it look much more natural than Colin's hairstylist. I think the armour looks fake too, alas.Love & peace,

Well actually, we also have the Lion Hunt Mosaic and the Stag Hunt Mosaic, both of which show him light haired - one blonde, the other red-blonde (which I think was probably closer to reality). I had heard as well that some traces of red paint were still found on Alexander's hair when the Sarcophagus was first unearthed.
Re: Photos from the set of 'Alexander'
I thought those other two were *theorized* to be Alexander (and others), not positively identified, while the Alexander mosaic was, due to the scene it shows.L&P,

the lion hunt...
is only theorized to be Alex....in any case, i have difficulty seeing the colors in it, they look very faded.I am not sure of the others however.
Re: the lion hunt...
That they are not signed 'this is Alexander' is true, but there are a number of very good reasons to think it is however, the only mention of his hair coloring in the ancient sources say he was blonde.
Re: Photos from the set of 'Alexander'
The chances that Oliver Stone could create a Lawrence of Arabia are tiny indeed. What with that bad brill cream job and a white instead of a purple Khiton, what can we expect?I just don't look forward to either movie, alas...
