Farrell vs De Crapio

Post by blackajax1 »

I can see Farrell doing Alexander over De
Caprio doing Alexander but I still can't see
Farrell doing a good job, if that makes any
senseA more sensible choice would be an unknown,
preferably of Greek/Balkan descent...but given
how Hollywood counts its beans on stars'
names....that will never happen....

I think Farrel will be good enough but all depends on people who make the story line if they will not use the fantasy but only the books and good imagination!Regards

I watched "The Recruit" at the weekend, chosen in the video store primarily in order to see Farrell in a starring role (only seen him in Daredevil and Minority Report up to now). I was quite impressed by his acting - OK, so the role didn't demand too much from him, but he was acting alongside Al Pacino and he didn't look out of place. As Maciek says, I think it will ultimately depend on the script and the story. But I'm not totally unhappy about Farrell playing AtG.(By the way, in a movie magazine I bought yesterday it gives some 'facts' about Alexander - one of which is that he introduced 3 new religions. That was a new one to me - perhaps we should investigate... it might be something to add to the myths section!)All the bestMarcus

I saw the perfect Alexander working at a taverna near Prinos Beach on Thassos this summer. Made a couple of trips to just hang out and ogle him. He was a bit too tall, but looked exactly like the Alexander on the coins. Hmmm. I bet he could act too, better that Leonardo! Ah, if only I was a talent scout! About those 'religions'. He didn't 'introduce' them at all. Zoroasterism and Buddhism were well entrenched before Alexander came along. What was the third one? (Hinduism?) What other nonsense will they come up with, I wonder? Oh Hollywood!

I suppose a cult doesn't count? He certainly introduced the cult of Hephaestion. Otherwise, he spread Hellenism throughout lands which had heretofore not heard of any of it. Also, because of his wayward conquests, the eastern philosophy/religions were reverse transplanted through contact back into Greece major (albeit, in a small way). Certainly, Christianity owed much to his dynastic ambitions, as well as many other later religions and underground cults. Ironically, it was Alexander acting unknowingly as the catalyst which sped the decline of his own greek religions (already in a tailspin for the last couple of centuries or so). By extending the Hellene frontiers he also lengthened their stay in the ancient world by providing a safe haven in distant regions, untouched by Rome and other powers. All very interesting, but Hollywood needs to shut their collective mouths, and stick to making romantic comedies. later Nicator

I have to stand in defence of Hollywood here - the comment about the three religions was not, as far as I'm aware, made by the film makers, but by the copywriters on the magazine.Perhaps I will earn my nerd-feathers and write to them with a rebuttal... (and suffer public vilification from them as a result, maybe). :-)All the bestMarcus

I don't know, is it worth your time to educate someone who probably doesn't care anyway...still, it might be worth it just to prevent another spillage of garbage into the ATG rumor pool :)

Only The Rock or Arnold Schwarzenegger fit the picture of the Macedonians. Too bad that the Rock did the Scorpion King already, but at least the casting agents used their heads for once!

I actually think Decaprio will do a great job. When I was younger I didn't like him and found him frustrating, but I think that was just because the media sensationalised him and the girls loved him. I've never liked people who are really popular. But the fact is that with a more mature mindset I can now think about how well Leo can act. Basketball diaries, What's Eating Gilbert Grape and even some snap scenes in Romeo and Juliet are very impressive. Leo could really create the craziness of Alexander and have a young commanding presence about him that was seen in The Man in the Iron Mask. Baz Luhrmann has heaps of confidence in him from working with him.
As for Farrell - who's he? :)
