More on Stone's Alexander sides

I agree with you on Mary Renault,
Her writing, or more specifically her attitudes
can seem dated, however I agree that she did
understand Alexander (if this is possible) and
despite its excessive 'englishness' her prose is
beautiful, spare and intensely evocative of a
time she never knew.
