Hi all!!Just wondering if anyone else has been following the development of the Oliver Stone "Alexander" movie. I was looking around its website:http://www.alexander-the-great.co.uk/And, have noticed some very interesting things they did. For example, Alexander has blonde straight hair! And, I'm not sure if the customes are accurate, I thought that the "uniform" they dressed him in is a bit too short...Any thoughts on having Colin Farrel as Alexander? I personally think that the best casting call was for Anthony Hopkins to play Ptolemy. Comments, anyone? Thanks,
Karla

HiI think Colin Farrel is a good versatile Alexander, but I think he doesnt look natural in the roll all I imagine is the Phone Booth and see his dyed hair.Im sure hell play the part well though, We could all make lists of actors, theres a roll in this film for many actors from Brad Pitt to Ian Christopher Lee.Rgdards

If you were able to see Colin Farrell in the latest Jesse James movie (the best one ever made!) I believe you would agree Oliver Stone made the right choice to play Alexander.

Re: funny movie question
The thing is, I don't believe Ptolemy was that much older than Alexander and Anthony Hopkins is quite old. (Ptolemy was probably in his late 30's or early 40's at the time). Of course, remember when they cast a mid-30's Richard Burton as a young Alexander in that stupid film they made in the '50's?
Re: funny movie question
Ruth Why in your opinion was the Richard Burton movie stupid. Its fare to say that the story was changed in some ways, and even though Richard Burton was old for the part, he had the voice and the stage presence to carry the essence of Alexander some of the Alexander oration made by Burton who it has to be said had one of the best voices in movie history wasnt as bad as you say.Dont forget the movie was made in the 50s and many sword and action movies at that time looked very make believe and wooden, just remember the biblical epics, as kids they made us all believe in angels and heaven.Burton did have real stage presence and for his part he was a good Alexander.RegardsJason

"just remember the biblical epics, as kids they made us all believe in angels and heaven"Speak for yourself. One deity and gods(angels) is as good as another!

Re: funny movie question
I wouldn't disagree with a many of your comments, but I have to disagree that Burton was a good Alexander. He was just too old, and that wig...!Unfortunately, I would also argue that just because the film was 'better' than other sword and sandal epics (whether or not one agrees with that) it doesn't mean it was 'good' itself. But it's all personal opinion in the end. :-)All the bestMarcus
Re: funny movie question
I like Richard Burton, but he was just too bad-tempered in the film. Maybe it fitted into the image of Alexander at the time (driven, troubled), but he was too grumpy and his legs were terrible. Claire Bloom was lovely, but her role was to stare into space a lot, and say "You try to take on the whole world, Aliks-aaander"...
