Archaeology Magazine & the Movie (plus HBO)
The US Archaeology Magazine now has a web page devoted to their latest issue which ties in with the movie. It has links to two articles written by Eugene Borza - one on the recent History Channel special, and one on the Richard Burton movie. There are others of varying interest, but something in the one called The Elusive Tomb of Alexander caught my eye. (Sorry Andrew, there's nothing about your book as this page is a reprint of two previously published magazine articles.) The piece by Robert S. Bianchi on Liani Souvaltzi and her search at Siwa amused me when Bianchi says, "According to the article, she believes in the prophecy of an authority identified by her only as "Aristander," who allegedly promised that whoever possesses the mortal remains of Alexander the Great shall rule over a stable and prosperous realm." Hmm, we can presume from this that while Bianchi might be an archeologist, he obviously isn't a historian of Alexander. :-)Still, it's quite an interesting site with several more articles and one page with links to resources for Alexander on the web. Only three sites are listed: the first is Tim Spalding's and the second is good ol' Pothos! I'd love to say that the third is Livius, but it's a page on Michael Wood's "In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great." Perhaps someone should enlighten them further?I have a further note on the movie, as I don't want to use up a separate thread. If anyone in the US has HBO, the channel started running a short special on the film yesterday. It's called Alexander: First Look and is listed as fifteen minutes, though it actually only runs for around twelve. There are a few very short shots of the sets intermixed with cast interviews, but it is mostly clips from the film. One can really see the direction the promotion is taking from this "short." There are no new battle clips, minimal shots of Hephaistion despite his supposed prominence in the film, lots and lots of clips of Olympias, quite a few with Philip, the now obligatory clips of the raunchy bedroom scene with Roxane, and various other scenes that I haven't yet seen in commercials. It next airs on HBO on Saturday the 20th at 4 p.m., but if you have HBO 2 you can see it this Wednesday at 3 p.m., and early Saturday morning at 12:20 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.Best regards,Linda Ann

Thanks for this - I've added it to my growing list. Wonder if they'll do as much promotion in England when the movie debut gets closer? And it would have helped if I'd have included the URL for the Archaeology magazine in my post.
It can be found at: http://www.archaeology.org/online/featu ... index.html
