Tyre Alone could be a Movie.

Post by iskander_32 »

Its been mentioned about many parts of Alexanders story missing from the movie, The siege of Tyre was mentioned.Tyre in my opinion was a story and epic in itself, the toos and fros of that action was played out like a game of chess it was a real war of atrician.Man against man trial and tribulations,, The self determination that o matter what Alexander was going to take it.The resolve and fortitude of the Tyranians, Burning the causeway, cutting the ships loose even raids by the Tyranian ships.I regadr Tyre As one of Alexanders most difficult operations and costly and the outcome was never sure
its beenmentioned many times Alexanders and the Macedonians venting their frustration and anger on the Tyranians once it fell, But if we stuby the siege we can understand just why they killed all who were inside.Charlton Heston once made a movie called the Warlord about a Norman General holding a small fortress against attackers that story took a whole movie as Im sure Trye would,, The Stone movie can as I have said be only sketchy.regardsKenny

I'm glad you mention "The Warlord" - what a fantastic film that was!I'd love them to do a movie on Tyre - just think, and entire 2 hours of siege and battle ... and they'd be able to fit in plenty of non-fighting stuff, too, if they wanted to.What a film that would be!All the bestMarcus

Marcus hailIt apears we were brought up on the same movies,,, I totally agree with your points and that It gives the essence of what I am trying to say to our members with the movie. The 3 hour Stone movie can really only scratch the surface of the essence of Alexanders story,, All we can do os try to enjoy someones interpretation of a guy we all know much more about. As you say the drama ,the excitement and whole Tyre story is intruiging.Marcus a lot has been ridiculed with Burton,, But had the scrip and screenplay been better, I cant think of a better actor than Burton even now to play Alexander.Richard burton was one of the finest actorts of a generation who picked rubbish films the guy was the best actor never to win an oscar.regardsKenny

Come to think of it, there are plenty of episodes in Alexander's life and career that could be turned into stand-alone movies. The Philotas Affair is one (which would probably have to start in Persepolis, or when the army leaves Persepolis. The entire campaign in Bactria, including the Cleitus affair and the Pages' conspiracy; and so on. The difficulty is always in putting things in context - you almost need an 'overview' movie, with the various sequels dwelling more deeply on certain elements (we've already got a trilogy of sequels, starting with Tyre! A fourth could be the initial 2 years of invasion, with Granicus and the Gordian Know, culminating in Issus).I'm not sure I agree about Burton, though, I'm afraid. I would never deny that he was a truly great actor, but I just don't think he could have pulled off Alexander, even with a better script (and better costume design and make-up). That's not to say that anyone else could have done better at the time - although James Dean would have looked the part better. Marlon Brando could have done it, although he didn't look the part well enough. All the bestMarcus

"Come to think of it, there are plenty of episodes in Alexander's life and career that could be turned into stand-alone movies."A list of possible Alexander titles:Bagoas' kings
Persian court intrigues: the rise of Bagoas, and the way he tried to deal with the crisis after the death of Artaxerxes III. Danny de Vito as Bagoas.Revenge of the raped a.k.a. Beastly Instincts
The sad story of Pausanias and the death of Philip. A Paul Verhoeven movie; scenario Joe Eszterhas. All Barsine's men
Starring Nicole KidmanThe Rock
My proposal for the name for a movie about the siege of Tyre (Tyre = Sur = Rock). Scenario may be improved when told backwards: from the crucifixions to the sack of the city to the attack, et cetera, and ending with the moment where it started - Alexander's refusal to accept a second-rate shrine of Melqart to sacrifice. The Road to Divinity
Alexander in Egypt: a man who is in doubt about his father, and discovers he is the son of a god.Antigone and Philotas
Christina Ricci must be able to play the ambiguous character of Antigone: loving and betraying Philotas (Leonardo di Caprio). Director: Baz Luhrman.Ambush!
Alexander is trapped at the Persian gates, but manages to win the battle. Should be made by European directors working in Iran. Should win a BAFTA award and a C+¬sar. The Final Days
Darius' journey from Ecbatana to the east; how he is betrayed by his courtiers, left alone, arrested, and murdered. Tear jerker. Directed by Mel Gibson.Apocalypse Then
The genocide in India, how it changes Alexander, how the use of violence changes his soldiers; culminates in the duel of Coragus and Dioxippus.Death in Babylon
Scenario like "Citizen Kane" or "Rashomon": one man is trying to find out what happened, and meets several people who tell several, sometimes conflicting stories.Jona
(who had nothing better to do)
