Philip and travel

Post by Kate »

Hi,Linda's question about the best books on Philip reminded me that I wanted to ask if anyone on the Forum knows if Philip ever travelled to Cyprus. I'm sure I read somewhere that he had, but I can't remember the reference. I can't even remember the context, but the thought keeps niggling me! Grateful thanks to anyone who can put me out of my misery!Cheers,Kate

No I don't think he ever did. He went to Samothrace but I think the farthest south he came was Chaironeia, he sent Alexander and Alcimachos to Athens.
When you think about, it free-choice is the only possible option.

I'm not even sure he went as far as Olympia although he had a temple built there and statuary to display his whole family. (The Phillipeion)
