ALEXANDER (Oliver Stone) audition sides

Post by Kal »

I don't know how to get back to the original thread that had the sides for Hephaistion, but here is the site link for ALL the sides posted:http://www.showfax.com/sides_2/ny/featu ... /role.html

Yes, this is the very site. Thanks Kal. I notice there are two that weren't there before -- Alexander age 7 & Alexander age 12-14. Why Hephaistion's is still there when Jared Leto has the role, I don't know... ditto Roxane... seems a little shady to sell them. What the heck... if anyone else is thinking of buying the two young Alexander ones, don't -- I'm going to.Love & peace,
Karen

You're welcome, Karen! And yeah...I don't know why they can't update it. Maybe they'd like to make more money from people buying the sides. LOL Even though it says in the fine print that it is copyrighted material.I was going to buy the young Alexander sides, but if you share them with me then I won't, and I will be instead eternally grateful. :)

Hi Kal:I went back and read that copyright notice, and now I'm thinking I should never have transcribed those sides onto this forum, and shouldn't again... I could get myself and perhaps even Pothos, heaven forbid, into legal trouble. Maybe no one will ever know, but then again, this website gets a *lot* of hits...Love & peace,

I apologise if this has been noted and discussed here before, but, for anyone else who bought the side for Bagoas, did you notice the strong similarities to Renault's "The Persian Boy" -- strong enough perhaps to suggest that the novel might be one of the film's sources? I refer to Bagoas' calling Alexander "Al'skander," and to Alexander's speech about the fleeting nature of happiness. Again recalling Renault, the script excerpt even mentions Bagoas being moved by the streaks of grey in Alexander's hair. If they are drawing partly from Renault, I hope they use her rendering of the dance competition and the famous kiss. I've always felt that this scene cries out to be filmed.~Marc

Understandable. Definitely don't want the website to get lawyered!I might just shell out the few bucks and get the sides anyway... yes, I'm that eager to see this script. LOL

Marc, I thought the exact same thing after I bought and read the Bagoas side. Actually, what I thought was, "Mary Renault ripoff!" It also has Bagoas mentioning that he's 'from the hills near Susa' and Alexander expressing surprise that Bagoas speaks Greek upon their first meeting -- both Renault details. According to what I've read, the only source Stone has stated so far is Robin Lane Fox, but after reading those Bagoas scenes, there's no doubt in my mind that he's been using The Persian Boy as a source. And if all that stuff ends up in the finished film and he doesn't acknowledge her in the credits as a source for the script...we could be seeing some legal action against him by her estate. Anyone who's read all of the sides -- are there any more blatant similarities to her books to be found? Rebecca

I'm not sure Stone is using Robin Lane Fox as a "source" for the story. He's using Lane Fox as a historical adviser, which is not the same as using his book as a source for the more novelistic elements of the film... which is obviously what he's using Renault for. And, to be honest, if I were making a film and wanted to use some novelistic sources, I would only use Renault, 'cos I haven't come across anything else that's even a quarter as good a piece of literature! (leaving aside all the unpublished works showcased on this site, of course) :-)All the bestMarcus

Yep, agree there Marcus. And as I had mentioned before, the script can change dramatically from this stage to the shooting stage.

Just found this string whilst trying to find news on the Alexander the Great movies in production, Maybe I'm just a dumb brit, but what are 'sides'? My son is an actor and has already auditioned for the Stone version, and he was given a script to read. was this a 'side'?
