I was scrolling around Tumblr, as you do, and came across Jeanne's poll on what got people interested in Hephaestion https://www.tumblr.com/jeannereames. Unsurprisingly - as Tumblr tends to be rather fannish - Oliver Stone's movie (aka Jared Leto) came out on top (21%) with Mary Renault second (16%).
