Is Stone's movie based on Renualt's novels?

Post by Susan O »

I am new to the site and am enjoying it. I was introduced to Alexander the Great through the novels of Mary Renault. I thought I read somewhere-may have been this site-that the new Oliver Stone movie is somewhat based on her novels. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks for your help.

I hope not Or Mel Gibson will be hauling him through the courts. Gibson owns the rights to Renault's books. Or at least last I heard.

I believe that's right, Dave. When Gibson was planning to make his mini-series on Alexander (before getting side-tracked by his Aramaic Life of Christ, no doubt), he was supposedly going to base it on Renault. Now the project has been shelved, Lord knows what's going to happen to the rights. All the bestMarcus

It appears as if you have purchased a copy of the script. Where from?

Hello,I must admit that if any director could actually "put" onto film what Mary Renault had in her mind when she wrote "Fire From Heaven" I think it really would be fire from heaven. It would be very interesting to see it- hopefully one day we will as it figures on my top ten book list.I also had read that Gibson was interested in doing a mini series on the books but I don't know whose script Stone's was written by.It brings me back round to the question- how can you compress Alexander's life into a film?I am very eager to see the results and attempts.Best wishes,
Dean.
